Darwin to Broome in the Off Season | Outrunning the Wet

The Ocean and The Outback - A two part, cinematic road trip documentary from Darwin to Perth. November probably isn't the smartest time to road trip across Australia's remote north - but that's exactly what we did. In Part 1 of this journey, covering Darwin to Broome, we load up a rental motorhome and head west through the Northern Territory and into the Kimberley at the start of the wet season. Over roughly 2,000 kilometres, we deal with tropical storms, empty highways, questionable fuel decisions and some of the most dramatic landscapes in the country. Along the way, we swim at Florence Falls in Litchfield National Park, explore Nitmiluk Gorge and stay at remote outback roadhouses. After crossing into Western Australia at Kununurra, we visit Mirima National Park and spend some time above the incredible Lake Argyle before the long stretch to Broome. Doing this trip in the off season came with a few challenges - but it also meant near-empty campgrounds, dramatic skies, a few wet season discounts and a side of northern Australia most travellers never experience.
