Oct 18, 2026, "God and Caesar," Worship Service with Sermon by Pastor Kent Berghuis

How should we respond when it feels like the government is in conflict with our faith? When Jesus is questioned about taxes in Matthew 22:15-22, he challenges the people to give Caesar what is his, and God what is God’s. This begs the question of what belongs to Caesar and God. Caesar’s image was on their money—but God’s image is on humanity itself. We belong to God and need to give ourselves to God. We recognize we live in a world that seeks to stamp its image on everything it can. But we can subvert the kingdom of this world by dedicating ourselves to God in all the ways we can, while navigating life in this world wisely. During the service we will welcome a new member, as well as say goodby to a couple that are moving. The Chancel Choir is singing Joseph Haydn's "Glorious Is the Lord Almight," directed by William Henry Caldwell; Organist Gregory Land; Jeannette Cox reads Scripture; Pastor Jason Alspaugh shares the Children's Message; Pastor David Coggins leads in prayer.
