Joe visits Rodney and Margaret Read at their ranch in --- Texas. They are American Suffolk Horse breeders and Mary Margaret has been the secretary of the American Suffolk Horse Association for 40 years. The Suffolk horse is also referred to as Suffolk Punch.
Rodney's dad acquired his first Suffolk horses (Dolly and Bonnie) at the Waverly Midwest Horse sale in 1974. He then bought a stud colt from a New York breeder and took it to Minnesota. He purchased two more mares from Utah. In 2017 his horses had their 7th and 8th generation of offspring.
Suffolk horses are used for farming, riding, police work, trail and wagon rides and logging.
American Suffolk Horse Association - Mary Margaret has been the secretary since 1976. She inherited 2 boxes of files and a folder marked "How to"...which was empty. Years later the association was gifted many boxes of records and stud books, the oldest dating 1881.
She registered about 30 Suffolk horses per year. They are looking for a successor.
If you are interested in the breed here is contact information:

Mary Margaret also discusses the farm on which they live. They live in her great grandparent's home, originally a cotton farm. She inherited it from her father after moving it from Lagrange, TX to Ledbetter, TX, refurbishing it and taking care of her parents there until their passing.
