What does it mean to untangle your sense of self from the labels history and society try to place on you? In our first episode, host Itzel Yagual talks with M. Waret, a linguist, curriculum developer, decolonizing education specialist, fiction writer, and a French-West African woman who's spent nearly two decades crossing borders of culture and language. M. is the daughter of a West African refugee and a working-class French mother. For six years, she's been reclaiming her identity on her own terms, peeling back the layers of colonial legacy. This conversation moves past surface stories — from what it's like to occupy several worlds at once, to the moments when "decolonizing" became more than theory, to the ways assumptions about appearance shape the experience of mixed identity, to navigating education as a woman of the global majority, and why hair and beauty standards are never just about aesthetics. This is the in-between, as it really is. 🎧 Also available on Spotify, Amazon Music, and iHeart Share this with someone still figuring out their own "in-between."
