NKP 765: World War 2 Weekend

On Saturday, September 5, 2026, I made my way to Angola and Pleasant Lake Indiana to attend the Indiana Rail Experience’s World War II Weekend. While I didn’t do much of a chase, only getting 2 shots of 765, I did have a great time regardless. The props were great and the Pleasant Lake Depot looks fantastic! I also got to ride the separate diesel powered Battlefield Train, that took us to a battle reenactment which I thought was incredible! Truly an experience I loved and can’t wait to do again! It was interesting to ride on an observation deck backwards, something I’ve never done before! Several of the volunteers told me this was an every other year event, so I look forward to this again in 2028! I also ran into ‪@Whistlestop_Productions‬ A brief history of 765: Nickel Plate Road 765 is a preserved S-2 class 2-8-4 "Berkshire" type steam locomotive, built in September 1944 by the Lima Locomotive Works (LLW) for the New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad, commonly referred to as the "Nickel Plate Road". In 1963, No. 765, renumbered as 767, was donated to the city of Fort Wayne, Indiana, where it sat on display at the Lawton Park, while the real No. 767 was scrapped at Chicago in 1964. In the early 1970s, the newly formed Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society (FWRHS) restored No. 765 and operated it in main line excursion service. During the 1980s to early 90s, No. 765 ran excursion trains on the ex-Southern Railway's CNO&TP division and ex-Chesapeake and Ohio's New River Gorge route. Taken out of service in 1993, No. 765 was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 12, 1996. The locomotive was completely overhauled and returned to service in 2005. Since 2010, it visited the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR), hauling several excursions every year. From 2012 to 2015, No. 765 ran excursions on Norfolk Southern (NS) trackage in Indiana, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, for the 21st Century Steam program. In 2016, it ran excursions on Metra's Milwaukee District North Line and even the Rock Island District Line in 2017 and 2018. Since 2022, it has operated on the Indiana Northeastern Railroad (IN) for the seasonal Indiana Rail Experience excursions. So as you have noticed, outside of shorts, full length video uploads are slow right now, simply because this is an entirely Steam related channel, however my next video will be for Fostoria Rail Fest at the end of the month, despite the fact that it is not Steam related. Simply because it is an event that holds a lot of value to me. The next Steam related trip that is currently planned is the fall colors excursion with 765 in mid October, although I might plan a cedar point trip soon too! Also this video is dedicated to the lives lost on September 11th, 2001, since the day I posted this happened to coincide with the 25th Anniversary of that horrific day, I thought I’d mention it here. Rest in Peace to all the 2,996 people who died.
