Has God called you to something—but you're not sure what it is? And what if God's call doesn't come through a dramatic burning bush? In this stand-alone message, The Call of God, we look at the story of Moses in Exodus 3 and discover that God's calling doesn't always look the way we expect. Moses encountered God through a burning bush, but others recognize God's leading through a growing sense of direction, a burden on their heart, or an opportunity that keeps opening in front of them. Moses was 80 years old when God called him to lead Israel out of Egypt. His life had already included years in Pharaoh's household and decades in the wilderness. Yet God had been preparing him all along. The message is simple: If you have a pulse, you have a purpose. God sees the needs around us, prepares His people, and calls us to step into the work He has prepared for us. ✨ In This Message, You'll Learn: What the story of Moses teaches us about God's calling Why God's call doesn't always come through a dramatic experience How God can use every season of your life to prepare you Why your age doesn't disqualify you from being used by God The difference between vocational ministry and marketplace ministry What it means to be God's workmanship, created for good works How to recognize the gifts and abilities God has given you How your passions and burdens can point toward your calling How to recognize opportunities to serve Why ability + affinity + opportunity can help you discover your "sweet spot" for serving How ordinary acts of service can make an eternal difference Key Scriptures: Exodus 3:1–10 Exodus 2:23–25 Psalm 139:16 Ephesians 4:10–13 Ephesians 2:8–10 THE CALLING SWEET SPOT One of the practical takeaways from this message is to look at three things: ABILITY — What can you do? What gifts, skills, and abilities has God given you? AFFINITY — What moves you? What breaks your heart? What need do you see that you can't stop thinking about? OPPORTUNITY — Where can you serve? What doors are opening? What needs do you see around you? Where those three things intersect may be the place God is calling you to serve. And serving doesn't always mean standing on a platform. It could mean serving in children's ministry, joining the worship or media team, greeting someone in the parking lot, leading a Journey Group, serving at the coffee bar, making a phone call, caring for babies, or simply sitting beside someone who needs a friend. You may be the answer to someone's prayer. God has created you for good works, and there is a place for you to serve His Kingdom. If you sense God calling you into ministry—or if you're simply trying to figure out where you can serve—take some time to reflect on your abilities, affinities, and opportunities. And remember: You don't have to know you're changing someone's life. You just have to know Jesus has changed yours. Join us in person or online at Journey Church.
