France Student Protests | July 14, 1789: France taught the world the meaning of a people's revolution; that was the day the Bastille fell. October 2, 2026: France offered a preview of what protests by the next generation might look like. While other nations are still trying to fathom the mindset of Gen Z, France’s Gen Alpha took to the streets. And they did more than just protest; the country's children and adolescents turned France upside down, with secondary school students wreaking havoc across the nation. There are 3,700 secondary schools in France; among them, 500 have been vandalized to such an extent that they are no longer in a condition to reopen. Fires have raged across cities, and shops and markets have been ransacked. More than 2,000 protesters have been arrested across France on charges of property damage and public disorder.
