As we continue restoring and releasing some of the original Real Dinosaur Zoo episodes, this is one we were especially interested in bringing back.
This visit starts quietly enough, with a look inside the park’s marine habitats and a juvenile plesiosaur, before the tour moves deeper into the wetlands. But the further we go, the more unusual the reserve starts to feel.
The main attraction is an enormous adult Spinosaurus recently recovered by the park’s river exploration team. From reinforced viewing structures, we get an unusually close look at the animal, its massive sail, crocodile-like skull, conical teeth, and the wetland habitat designed around one of the strangest giant predators ever discovered.
For this remaster, we focused heavily on atmosphere — upgraded music, stronger environmental sound, cleaner audio, and selected visual improvements to make the reserve feel larger, wetter, and much more immersive. The original episode was always one of the more cinematic visits in the series, and we wanted to preserve that feeling while bringing the presentation closer to where Real Dinosaur Zoo is today.
There are still a few imperfections from the original production, but that is part of restoring these legacy episodes rather than completely rebuilding them. We’re trying to preserve what made the original series memorable while improving the areas that benefit most from another pass.
From the marine nursery to the reinforced Spinosaurus river basin, swamp trails, viewing platforms and deeper wetland areas, this remains one of the stranger days we’ve spent inside the park.
If there’s an older Real Dinosaur Zoo episode you remember — or one you’ve been waiting to see return — let us know in the comments. We’re continuing to use viewer requests to help decide which original zoo visits get restored next.
Thanks for coming back to the zoo. 🦖
