In this review of Excessive Force (1993), I take a look at the New Line Cinema action thriller that should have launched Griffith into the big leagues. Featuring James Earl Jones, Lance Henriksen, Tony Todd, Burt Young, and Charlotte Lewis, Excessive Force is one of those forgotten studio action movies that deserves far more attention than it gets. Along the way, we revisit a lost corner of early '90s action cinema filled with mobsters, martial arts, rain-soaked streets, and blue-grey city skylines that I wish Hollywood still made today.
