White Sands National Park Blew Us Away! (Dog-Friendly & Unreal Views)

Welcome to White Sands National Park, home to the world's largest gypsum dune field! In this adventure, we're exploring one of the most unique National Parks in the United States with our golden retriever, Hazel. Unlike most sand dunes, the brilliant white dunes at White Sands are made entirely of gypsum crystals, creating a landscape that feels like another planet. Covering more than 275 square miles in southern New Mexico, this incredible park offers breathtaking views, scenic drives, hiking opportunities, and some of the most unforgettable sunrises and sunsets you'll ever experience. One of our favorite things about White Sands National Park is that it's one of the most dog-friendly National Parks! Dogs are welcome on the park's trails, throughout the picnic areas, and in many outdoor spaces, making it an amazing destination for travelers exploring with their furry companions. Fun tip: gypsum does not hold heat as sand does, so in fact we opted to go barefoot, and Hazel's paws seemed just fine. Unlike the Great Sand Dunes National Park, where the key is to get on the sand early or late at night and off the sand during the middle of the day.
