She Didn't Want Marriage… So Why Did She Marry Her Korean Husband?

What happens when your ideas about love, marriage and family meet a completely different culture? 🇮🇹🇰🇷 In this episode, I sit down with my friend Aisha Ba to talk about the unexpected journey that brought her from Italy to South Korea—and eventually led her to build an entirely new life here. Aisha grew up in South Tyrol in northern Italy with a German-speaking Italian mother and Senegalese father. Before Korea, she was pursuing a PhD in Economics in Austria and working in economic research—but her love of Locking dance eventually brought her to Seoul. What was originally supposed to be a short stay turned into a completely different career and life. Since moving to Korea, Aisha has worked as a model, dancer and content creator, walked at Seoul Fashion Week, worked with major brands, and appeared in projects involving artists including BTS, BoA and Lisa of BLACKPINK. Today, she's also a mother of two, living in Korea with her Korean husband and sharing a slower, more creative side of life through family, food, fashion, beauty, crochet, baking and everyday life between Korean and European cultures. But her path to marriage wasn't exactly what you might expect. 😂 Growing up in Italy, Aisha never felt that getting married was necessary in order to build a life and have children with someone she loved. When she met her Korean husband, she was perfectly happy just being together and eventually having a family. Then came Korea. 🇰🇷😂 We talk about the cultural differences surrounding marriage and family, how she ended up marrying a man she loved even though marriage itself wasn't originally part of her plan, and much more about her background, identity and the experiences that shaped who she is today.
