The Nanxi River Basin resembles a beautiful, secluded paradise, home to hundreds of ancient villages. Cangpo Ancient Village(苍坡古村) is one of the most representative, located at the foot of a large mountain in Yantou Town, Yongjia County, Wenzhou, Southern Zhejiang, China. Originally named Cangdun(仓墩), the village was founded in 955 CE by Li Cen, who migrated from Fujian to escape war. In 1178 CE, his descendant Li Song hired a national master to redesign the village layout. The architecture of Cangpo, a microcosm of ancient Chinese culture, retains its Song Dynasty features. Unfortunately, the number of historic buildings has been severely reduced and damaged in recent years, as villagers have been tearing down old residences to build modern homes.
