Inishowen Head Lighthouse, County Donegal

Located at the northeast tip of Insihowen Peninsula in County Donegal, Ireland. First established in 1837 to aid shipping to navigate the dangerous waters of Lough Foyle, the tower stands 23 meters (75 feet) in height and overlooks Stroove beach, the Atlantic Ocean, and Lough Foyle. The further most tower remnant, nearest the Atlantic is Binevenagh Lighthouse. The two towers originally built as a pair of harbour lights. In 1957 the decision to abandon the front light and replace the acetylene light in the rear tower with a new electric lamp in a catadioptic lens. Binevenagh was then reduced to what we see today in 1961. The station was automated on 31 August 1979 and the full-time keepers were withdrawn. If the electricity supply is interupted, a 12kW generator is on stanby and automatically takes over.
