Walking Melbourne's BIGGEST waste of tax payers money! - Webb Dock railway line

Hello and welcome egg-splorers, let's take a walk together down Melbourne's forgotten and abandoned Webb dock railway line. The now defunct freight only line once ran from just west of southern cross railway station through what now is marvel stadium and through port Melbourne all the way to Webb dock. Opening in 1986 the board gauge line was primarily used for container freight but was immediately limited in its functionality as it wasn’t built in dual gauge to allow standard gauge access to the port. This incompatibility issue was a contributing factor to the demise of the line as the annoyance continued to bolster the reliance on trucks to transport goods and cost the shipping industry millions of dollars per year. The last freight train ran on the line in 1992 and the line was officially closed in 1996 after only ten years of operation. What a waste. With Webb dock only getting buzzer and buzzer should the freight line be upgraded and reopened or converted to a tram line to serve the new apartments popping up in docklands?
