"Unsere Panzerdivision" (Our Tank Division) is an East German military song commemorating the armored divisions of the National People's Army - the NVA - now in a brand new orchestral production! The song was most famously performed by the Erich-Weinert Ensemble. The Ensemble was a professional army choir of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic. The ensemble consisted of a male choir, a ballet, an orchestra, a cabaret, soloists, dramaturges, conductors, directors, choreographers and technical and organizational staff. The ensemble was based in Berlin-Biesdorf. The ensemble was named after Erich Weinert, a German communist writer and long-time member of the KPD/SED. When West and East Germany reunited, the ensemble was transferred to the control of the Bundeswehr. It remained financed until 1994, when the federal German government dropped all support for it. Most of its records, aside from the famous ones accessible on the Internet, have since been lost.
