Two weeks ago, we were at the Belmot Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nürburgring with Vidar’s BMW M3 E30.
We had signed up for the Oldtimer Trackday on Friday and arrived early in the morning, ready for a full day on the Nordschleife.
After just one lap, we were waved in and told: “Way too much noise!” 😅
The car measured 137 dB, and we were not allowed to continue driving that day 👎😩
Luckily, the European BMW Club invited us into the paddock at the GP circuit to join the celebration of 40 years of the BMW M3. The car attracted a lot of attention in the paddock.
On Friday evening, we built a completely new exhaust system, and on Saturday and Sunday we got the opportunity to do some more testing on the Nordschleife.
This year, we have also installed a completely new Life Racing engine management system, giving us much better protection and control to help prevent engine damage.
However, we are currently struggling with excessively high water and oil temperatures, which means we have to abort after around half a lap. As the oil temperature rises, the oil pressure also drops lower than we would like.
As you will see in the video, at the exit of Bergwerk the car goes into limp mode and the power is reduced in order to protect the engine. Then, at Steilstrecke, we decide to abort the lap and back off to get the temperatures down.
We need to get to the bottom of this and make some changes before the next trip.
But the data logs are showing BTG times in the 6:43–6:50 range… 👀🔥
So you can imagine how much we are looking forward to coming back, solving the temperature issues and finally putting together a full lap! 👌🏎️🏎️
