José Mourinho: The Special One Explained | Why Even Barça Fans Should Watch This Netflix Series

José Mourinho: The Special One Explained “I was born into football.” That line from José Mourinho perfectly sets the tone for Netflix’s new three-part documentary series MOURINHO — a deep look at the man behind the “Special One” persona. The series was released globally on Netflix on August 11, 2026, and features Mourinho alongside some of the biggest names from his career. (About Netflix) But this video isn’t simply a review of the documentary. As a Barcelona fan, I wanted to understand something that has always fascinated me: Why does José Mourinho have such a complicated relationship with Barça? Many fans know that Mourinho’s coaching journey began around Barcelona, but the story is much deeper than that. His relationship with Barça, Pep Guardiola, Real Madrid, Inter, Chelsea and the players he managed helps explain why “The Special One” became one of football’s most polarising figures. And now, with Mourinho back at Real Madrid, the discussion becomes even more interesting. Real Madrid don’t simply need individual brilliance. They need to become a team again. And that is where Mourinho’s biggest strength has always been. He didn’t need to teach Cristiano Ronaldo how to score goals. He didn’t need to teach Sergio Ramos how to head the ball. His job was to make the Real Madrid team function as one unit. From his historic 100-point La Liga season to the incredible Inter Milan team that conquered Europe, Mourinho repeatedly proved that his biggest weapon wasn’t just tactics. It was his mentality. His ability to control egos. His ability to motivate stars. His ability to create a siege mentality. And, yes… his ability to fight wars at press conferences. 😂 For Barça fans, that means one thing: Be ready. The Special One is back. In this video, we talk about the Netflix documentary, Mourinho’s mentality, his history with Barcelona, Pep Guardiola, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, his relationship with superstar players, and why I believe Mourinho deserves far more respect when football discusses the greatest coaches of the modern era. If you haven’t watched MOURINHO on Netflix yet, consider this your sign to watch it. And if you’re a Barcelona fan… Watch it especially carefully. You might understand your biggest rival a little better.
