🚨 Hurricane Simon has changed direction: after days sitting off Mexico's coast, the National Hurricane Center's forecast now takes it north toward Baja California Sur and Cabo San Lucas, where watches could be issued in the next day or two. Behind it, Tropical Storm Trudy is forecast to rapidly intensify into a Category 4 hurricane by Friday night — aimed at the same coast Simon already flooded. Simon is forecast to reach the Cabo area as a tropical storm by Saturday, but the models disagree badly. Trudy could approach Michoacán and Colima on Saturday and Manzanillo on Sunday, where at least six people have already died in flooding. And the two storms may get close enough to pull on each other's tracks — the Fujiwhara effect. ⏱️ Chapters 0:00 Simon turns toward Cabo, Trudy behind it 0:35 Simon heads for Cabo San Lucas 1:30 Hurricane Odile 2014: what Cabo remembers 1:54 Why Simon's forecast is so uncertain 2:38 Trudy: rapid intensification to Cat 4 3:24 Aimed at the same flooded coast 4:00 The Fujiwhara effect: two storms pulling on each other 5:05 Fifth storm in a month: El Niño's Pacific 5:48 What to do: Cabo trips and the coast 6:34 Where things stand Sources: National Hurricane Center (Simon Advisory & Discussion 29, Trudy Advisory & Discussion 5, Oct 14, 2026), USA Today, Cabo Sun, AP, CBS News.
