오래된 골목 – 북아현동, 기찻길 위 언덕에 남은 시간의 흔적 | Traces of Old Seoul on a Hillside Above the Railway

안녕하세요, 히든서울입니다. 오늘은 서대문구 북아현동의 오래된 골목을 걸어봅니다. 북아현동은 서울 도심과 가까운 오래된 주거지역입니다. 도심으로의 접근성이 좋아 일찍부터 주거지가 형성되었고, 구릉지의 지형을 따라 집과 골목, 계단이 촘촘하게 자리 잡았습니다. 이후 북아현동의 많은 지역이 재개발되면서 오래된 저층 주택가는 대규모 아파트 단지로 바뀌었습니다. 하지만 지역마다 변화의 속도가 달랐고, 일부 골목에는 여전히 예전 동네의 모습과 오랜 생활의 흔적이 남아 있습니다. 아현역에서 시작해 동네 안으로 들어가면 오래된 식당과 작은 상점들이 이어지고, 오랫동안 이 지역과 함께해 온 아현동성당도 만날 수 있습니다. 조금 더 안쪽으로 들어가면 철길 아래의 터널과 그 위를 오가는 경의중앙선 열차가 보이고, 언덕을 따라 올라갈수록 높은 계단과 좁은 골목, 오래된 담장과 낡은 주택들이 하나둘 나타납니다. 언덕 위에서는 다시 경의중앙선 열차가 지나가는 풍경을 바라볼 수 있습니다. 끊임없이 움직이는 열차와 그 곁에서 오랜 시간을 견뎌온 골목의 모습이 묘한 대비를 이룹니다. 오늘은 북아현동의 언덕길을 천천히 걸으며, 변화하는 서울 속에 아직 남아 있는 시간의 흔적을 담아봅니다. 오늘도 서울의 기억을 모아갑니다. Hello, this is Hidden Seoul. Today, we walk through the old hillside neighborhood of Bukahyeon-dong in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. Located close to central Seoul, Bukahyeon-dong has long been a residential neighborhood. Over the years, homes, narrow alleys, and steep stairways were built along its hilly terrain, creating the dense hillside streets that became part of everyday life here. Much of Bukahyeon-dong has since changed through redevelopment, with many old low-rise neighborhoods replaced by large modern apartment complexes. But because different parts of the area have changed at different times, some of the older streets and traces of everyday life still remain. Starting near Ahyeon Station, we enter streets lined with old restaurants and small local shops, where we also come across the old Ahyeon-dong Catholic Church. Deeper into the neighborhood, a railway passes through the landscape. Trains on the Gyeongui–Jungang Line run above a small tunnel, while the streets gradually climb higher into the hills. As we continue upward, the city begins to feel different. Steep stairways, narrow alleys, weathered walls, and aging houses reveal another side of Seoul that has survived amid the changing city. From the top of the hill, we can once again watch the trains passing below — a quiet contrast between a city that never stops moving and an old neighborhood that still carries traces of another time. Today, we walk slowly through Bukahyeon-dong and follow the traces of time that still remain on this hillside above the railway.
