REAL love is Him

“Is love enough?” I think there is only one kind of love that is truly enough: real love. People say, “I want unconditional love.” “I want true love.” “I want someone who will love me no matter what.” But if love is real, it already carries what we are searching for. Real love can hold you when you are weak. It can help heal what has been wounded. It can comfort you without enabling you. It can challenge you when you are wrong. It can correct you, chastise you, humble you, and still refuse to abandon you. Real love does not merely make you feel accepted as you are. It loves you enough to call you toward who you were created to become. So yes, love can be enough. If it is real. And this is where we have to be careful, because not everything called “love” is love. Scripture does not leave us to define love according to emotion, desire, culture, chemistry, or personal preference. It tells us where love begins: “YHWH is love.” — 1 John 4:8 If we want to recognize real love, we must first come to know YHWH through His Word. Otherwise, we may call attachment love. We may call lust love. We may call indulgence love. We may call silence love when correction is needed. We may even reject correction because it does not feel loving. But the love of YHWH has truth in it. It has mercy in it. It has discipline in it. It has patience, holiness, sacrifice, and correction in it. Yeshua said: “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” — John 14:15 So perhaps the deeper question is not simply: “Is love enough?” Perhaps it is: “Do I know YHWH well enough to recognize what real love actually is?” Because when love comes from Him, it does more than make us feel loved. It teaches us how to become loving.
