My full Silent Hill 4: The Room playthrough that I recorded on June 17th and June 18th, 2026. This game was the most mixed I have ever felt about a game. It had bad moments, it had mediocre moments, it had good moments, and it had great moments. Below I'll leave a very in depth review I wrote on the game. The final Silent Hill game I had left to play that was considered good. I knew this game was controversial going into it, and I can see why. It's simultaneously an amazing near masterpiece level game like the previous games, but also does everything a game shouldn't do that makes it feel terrible. I know people complained that the first game needed a remake before the second, but even though this is the most recent mainline entry I think it needed a remake first. Let me start off with the good. I think the room is just such an amazing concept and I love the way you travel to places. Speaking of places they were all awesome and I can't say there was a bad location. The monsters were probably the scariest the series has ever seen, the "Twin Victim" was one of the scariest basic enemies in any horror game I've ever played. Walter was a great character/villain as well and I also thought Eileen was a good enough character. The music was great as well, but when Akira Yamaoka is involved it's basically a given. I also like that they tried making the game more "survival horror" than the previous games with a limited inventory and an item box. While the execution wasn't the best I respect the attempt to make the gameplay more complex. Now onto the bad, and there's a lot of it. The biggest sin this game commits is one of the worst sins a game can commit in my opinion. The second half of the game is just revisiting the same locations as the first half and you just do different things. Do you think going through the same areas a second time is lame? Well not only do you do every area twice, but the second time you have to escort the slowest NPC ever. Basically every time I reached a door I had to wait 5 to 10 seconds for Eileen to move her ass over to me. The controls were just terrible, sometimes it felt like I was walking into invisible walls out in the open. It's not an age thing, I played SH1, RE1 OG, and RE2 OG all in the span of the last few months and had zero issues with their controls. I have no clue how the gameplay of the fourth entry is significantly worse than the other three but it is. My final complaint wasn't as big as the final three, but Henry was also a really boring protagonist. Overall this is the most conflicted I've felt about a game in a while. The good outweighs the bad, but the bad stuff is basically the entirety of the second half of the game's gameplay. One of the only games I think you'd have a better time watching a no commentary YouTube playthrough rather than playing it yourself. This game needs a remake, and a good remake would be one of the best horror games of all time. I want to love this game, and I do to an extent, but the quality ranged anywhere from a 4/10 to a 9/10 at times. It unfortunately follows the trend of most of my favorite franchises where the fourth game is either mediocre, or in this case very flawed. #SilentHill4 #SilentHill #SilentHill4TheRoom #SurvivalHorror #FullPlaythrough #Gaming
