In this video, we break down Canada's massive new icebreaker fleet: CCGS Imnaryuaq, the largest polar icebreaker ever built in Canada; CCGS Arpatuuq, the Polar Max heavy icebreaker; six new Polar Class 3 icebreakers worth $11.3 billion; and the Royal Canadian Navy's Harry DeWolf-class Arctic patrol ships. On October 14, 2026, Seaspan laid the keel of Imnaryuaq in North Vancouver. The ship is 158 metres long, about 26,000 tonnes and carries 47 megawatts of power, and it's projected to be one of the most powerful non-nuclear icebreakers in the world. Meanwhile, Davie Shipbuilding in Lévis, Québec, and Helsinki Shipyard in Finland are building Arpatuuq. And Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the largest shipbuilding contract in Québec's history. But here's what shocked America: the United States has only one heavy icebreaker, the Polar Star from 1976. Its replacement is delayed until 2033. And all 11 of America's new Arctic Security Cutters lead back to Canada, through Seaspan's design and Davie's shipyards. In this video you'll learn: How icebreakers actually break ice Canada's biggest icebreaker ever: Imnaryuaq Polar Max (Arpatuuq) and the Davie–Helsinki partnership The $11.3 billion icebreaker contract in Lévis The Harry DeWolf-class Arctic warships Canada vs Russia vs China vs USA: the Arctic icebreaker scoreboard Why America is now relying on Canadian designs and shipyards What this means for the St. Lawrence, the Great Lakes, Northern communities and Arctic sovereignty At CANADA Tomorrow, we cover real Canadian inventions, technology and megaprojects, with real facts and no fake hype.
