Bought an old tenor saxophone and this was in the case. John Coltrane is strongly linked to these in the 1950s. Session photos from Blue Train (1957, Blue Note) show him with this model; sources connect this model (typically ~5–6 tip) to his sound on that album and other mid/late-1950s recordings (including parts of the Miles Davis period). He continued using these into the early 1960s in some accounts before shifting more toward Super Tone Masters and other pieces. Hank Mobley (tenor): Associated with a this model (sometimes described as an Improved version, with a white replacement bite plate) on a Selmer SBA during the Soul Station / Roll Call / Workout period (around 1960–61, Blue Note). Earlier he used double-ring Super Tone Masters and hard-rubber pieces. Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, Lester Young, Benny Carter (alto), Charlie Barnet, Buddy Tate, Georgie Auld, and Vido Musso: Listed as users of these Otto Link Tone Master. These swing-era players were active with the model during its production window and the broader 1940s, on various big-band and small-group recordings of the time (exact album-by-album confirmation is sparse compared with the later Coltrane/Mobley examples).
