Clovelly. The Devonshire Quaint and Unique Village.

Clovelly is a charming, picturesque village located on the coast of North Devon, England. Renowned for its stunning scenery and unique cobbled streets, this quaint fishing village offers a glimpse into traditional coastal life while showcasing the beauty of the North Devon coastline. I have been meaning to visit for years. All the times I visited my late mum in Westward Ho!, I vowed to myself, 'This time I'm visiting Clovelly'. I need eer did because there just didn't seem to be the time.  So, in December 2024, I took myself, my little dog, Pixie, and mum's ashes with me to Devon and finally I made it to Clovelly.  One of Clovelly's most distinctive features is its steep, cobbled streets and my hotel, The New Inn, was just a short way down the street.  The village is built dramatically on a hillside that descends to the Atlantic Ocean, with no vehicles permitted in the main village area, preserving its historic character. Instead, residents and visitors traverse the narrow pathways on foot, adding to the village's timeless charm. The winding paths are lined with traditional cottages, which I thought were all just so gorgeous and quaint and which looked even more special considering the time of the year. They were all adorned with twinkling festive lights and decorations, as were the streets.  The history of Clovelly dates back to the 13th century when it was established as a port and thriving fishing village. Its economy historically revolved around fishing, shipbuilding, and trade. Today, it retains its maritime character and offers visitors a range of attractions, including the Clovelly Harbour, where fishing boats bob gently in the water, creating a delightful maritime atmosphere. In fact, I fell so in love with that little harbour that I took some different photos with a view to painting them (one day!).
