This video shows the result of a couple of visits to Twyford station, located on the Great Western Mainline between London Paddington and Reading, in both 2009 and 2011, long before the whole scene was electrified. In the video, we see First Great Western Class 166s, Class 180s and HSTs all speeding through, along with a track machine, a couple of freight movements and 60163 'Tornado' on a railtour. Since this was filmed, overhead wires now dominate the scene, with HSTs and Class 180s giving way to Hitachi Class 800s and 802s, whilst Class 166s have given way to Class 387s. Sadly, access to the fast platforms are restricted these days (for understandable safety reasons), meaning many of these shots are unrepeatable. Enjoy! About 'From the archives': This series will place a spotlight on the UK rail network between 2007 and 2012, showing trains, operators and scenes that, in many cases, have been lost to time over the past 18 years. All videos in this series was filmed with my old Panasonic DVD camcorder, so the quality will be lower than my more modern videos, but the footage still remains too good not to share! My aim is to release a weekly video from this series, so please stay tuned for more videos in the future.
