This tutorial is done in the Overlay Mosaic Crochet Technique. In this tutorial I will teach you how to crochet this eye catching Mosaic Crochet design. This pattern is worked in a MULTIPLE of 8 + 4. ROW START TIMES PROVIDED BELOW. Additional info provided below for working in the round as well. TO REPEAT THE DESIGN FOR LARGER PROJECTS YOU WILL WORK ROWS 1 THRU 13 AND THEN WORK ROWS 2 THRU 13 AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WOULD LIKE FOR THE PROJECT YOU CHOOSE. END your project by working Row 13 as your final row & complete a row of SC in color A ☕Want to buy me a coffee? I recommend using the below hook sizes depending on yarn used: 3 DK yarn : 3.5mm to 4.5mm Size 4 Medium/worsted weight: 4.5mm to 5.5mm. Mixing 3 & 4 weight: 3.5mm to 4.5mm SIZE 1 Lace Weight - 2.75mm to 3mm hook used on slouchy hat THE YARN: I'm using size 3 yarn, any brand will work as well as any size. Color A: King Cole Pricewise (DK) in Mustard; Color B: Deramores Studio Anti-Pilling DK in Paprika Color change in second repeat color B: Stylecraft Special DK in Storm Blue 🎯MOSAIC MESSY BUN HAT: Color A: Deramores Studio Anti-Pilling DK in Rosemary, Color B: Stylecraft Special DK in Storm Blue (more details below in project ideas section) Note on mixing yarn sizes 3 (DK) & Size 4 (Medium Worsted weight): THE TRICK TO MIXING YARN SIZES IS JUST KEEPING YOUR TENSION EVEN AND USING THE SMALLEST SIZE HOOK RECOMMENDED FOR THE SMALLER YARN! You can use any yarn size you like and can use yarn that is all the same size, you do not have to mix yarn sizes. Suggested starting chains for various projects - counts include +4 at end: Baby blanket: 116 chains depending on yarn size used Place mats: 60 chains Table Runner: 60 chains for total width of table runner, you will then work the repeats to obtain the total length for your table. Throw blanket : 172 chains, yarn size will affect total width and the number of repeats is up to you and will determine total length Tote or Throw Pillow: 60 chains depending on yarn size used and desired size, create 2 and seam together Makeup or Notions bag: 36, create 2 and sew together or see in the round info below Scarf: 36 chains depending on yarn size used and desired width. I recommend size 3 light weight yarn or smaller for garments. Wide scarf: 60 Chains; Shawl: 92 chains IN THE ROUND projects - Slip stitch to first chain & work following the repeat given in the video: 🎩🧢👒MESSY BUN Hat: 80 chains IN SIZE 3 YARN, with a G ~ 4.25mm hook, gauge: 4"×4" = 14 sts x 18 rows, I repeated the design twice (2) before decreasing 7 rows to close top leaving 3" opening at crown, SS in all stitches to finish opening, Hat measurements: 20" x 7.5" at crown, to adjust size you can change hook size or chain more or less. Throw Pillow: 20" to 24" depending on yarn size used and tension chain 88 Bag or Tote: 56 chains to 88 chains depending on desired size Treat bags/Mini gift bags: 40 to 56 chains Project info and starting: To begin your project you will chain in multiples of 8 plus 4 at the end to work a flat piece. You will skip the first chain and begin working in the second chain from the hook, ending up with an odd number of stitches. EXAMPLE: I chained 20 and had 19 stitches at the end of my first Foundation Row. Stitches used in this project: Back Loop Single Crochet and Front Loop Double Crochet (drop down double crochet as I like to call it). #fiberfoxstudios
