Day 4 is the final stage of Tasmania’s Three Capes Track, taking me 14 kilometres from Retakunna Hut to Fortescue Bay via Mount Fortescue and the spectacular Cape Hauy.
The day begins with the climb through the forested slopes of Mount Fortescue before the trail heads toward Cape Hauy. Here, towering dolerite columns rise out of the Tasman Sea, including the famous Totem Pole, creating one of the most dramatic viewpoints on the entire Tasman Peninsula.
After returning from Cape Hauy, I begin the final descent toward the white sand and turquoise water of Fortescue Bay, marking the end of our four-day, 48-kilometre Three Capes Track adventure.
In the final episode of this hiking series, I share the last major climb, the Cape Hauy experience, my arrival at Fortescue Bay and my final thoughts on whether the Three Capes Track lived up to expectations.
