My 'Alabama History Day' Project Would Be...

For Alabama History Day 2026, we asked some of our state’s elected officials, historians, and other notable Alabamians: What would YOU research if you were competing in Alabama History Day this year? ABOUT ALABAMA HISTORY DAY Each year, the Alabama Humanities Alliance engages thousands of students in Alabama History Day. This annual program for all Alabama middle school and high school students (think science fair but for history!) equips students to research history topics of their own choosing and creatively present their findings to judges. It also gives teachers a dynamic project-learning tool for the classroom. At our state contest each spring, you'll see students presenting artistic exhibits, documentary films, dramatic performances, websites, and papers. Winners have the chance to advance to National History Day in Maryland and Washington, D.C., each summer. Our 2026 contest location, at American Village in Montevallo, was inspired by America’s 250th anniversary this year.
