13 days. 164 kilometers. I hiked the Grampians Peaks Trail (GPT) in just 6 days and 5 nights. The Grampians Peaks Trail in Victoria, Australia, is notoriously brutal, technical, and breathtaking. While most take nearly two weeks to complete this Grade 4/5 trek, I wanted to push my limits and capture the raw beauty of Gariwerd from the inside out. Moving fast and light, I experienced the full spectrum of Australian mountain weather - from brilliant blue skies to dense, eerie mist and high winds. For three days straight, I didn't see another soul on the trail. This film is designed to place you directly into the landscape, showcasing the incredible, shifting terrain of this world-class thru-hike. 💬 Planning the GPT can be incredibly daunting. If you are planning your own hike, fast-pack, or ultra-run here, leave a comment below with any questions! I’d love to help you plan your journey. 👇 Let me know in the comments if you want a behind-the-scenes commentary video on how I shot this solo! 📸 Follow the journey on Instagram:   / jimmydau   ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS 00:00 - Intro 01:00 - Day 1: Mt Zero to Gar Hike-in Camp (Northern Sandstone Slabs) 08:15 - Day 2: Gar to Halls Gap (Chasing the Mist) 11:05 - Day 3: Halls Gap to Barry Yulug (Deep Gorges & Rock Scrambles) 15:42 - Day 4: Barry Yulug to Durd Durd (The Exposed Ridges) 22:40 - Day 5: Durd Durd to Wannon (Major Mitchell Plateau) 26:45 - Day 6: Wannon to Dunkeld (The Final Push) 🥾 THE PACK & LOGISTICS (FAST-PACKING SPEC) To survive the aggressive ascents, knee-crushing descents, and technical terrain at this pace, keeping my pack weight down was non-negotiable. Base Pack Weight: 9 kg Resupplies: None stashed. I carried a day's worth of supplies on day one and then picked up the remaining food supply at Halls Gap. Nutrition Strategy: 100% self-dehydrated meals and calorie-dense lightweight snacks to fuel huge mileage days. Breakfast: Muesli Lunch: Tuna and wraps Sustenance: Homemade beef jerky, mixed nuts, and protein bars Dinner: Dehydrated spaghetti bolognese 🏔️ THE TERRAIN BREAKDOWN The North (Gar & Halls Gap): Massive, sweeping sandstone slabs, dry sandy gullies, and exposed cliff edges that require intense focus, especially when the weather rolls in. The Center (Barry Yulug): Forested technical tracks transitioning into massive sandstone gorges, narrow rock stairs, and hands-on rock scrambling. The South (Durd Durd, Wannon & the Plateau): Exposed, high-wind sub-alpine terrain across the iconic Major Mitchell Plateau, followed by steep, rocky ridge lines that test your ankles and endurance.
