The story of Lazarus of Bethany is found in the Gospel of John chapter 11. Lazarus, the brother of Mary of Bethany and Martha of Bethany, became very sick and died before Jesus Christ arrived in their village of Bethany. After Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days, Jesus went to the grave, comforted the grieving sisters and those who were mourning, and then prayed to God. He called Lazarus to come out of the tomb, and Lazarus came back to life still wrapped in burial cloths. This miracle amazed many people and showed Jesus’ power over death, leading many to believe in Him.
