Tension erupted in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, during protests over the planned removal of a portion of the Shahi Masjid for a road-widening project ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh 2028. Protesters reportedly clashed with police and stones were pelted, following which police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. More than 2,000 police personnel were deployed in the area. The project covers a 730-metre stretch and is expected to affect 272 structures, with around ₹9.80 crore allocated for the road-widening work.
