Ginette Doyen Plays Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words - Final Version (circa 1956)

Long-time subscribers will know that I have posted several videos featuring the French pianist Ginette Doyen (1921-2002.) Ms. Doyen made very few LPs and all of them are excellent. She recorded during the 1950s, and made no solo records thereafter. She continued to teach and play concerts until the late 1970s when an injury to her hand curtailed her performing career. She was married to the French violinist, Jean Fournier and they made several albums together of duets. Prior to this album, Ms. Doyen had recorded three albums of Mendelssohn's Songs without Words for Westminster. This album contains essentially what was in her first two albums. I have not compared the performances, but I assume these are reissues and not new performances. And while this album is subtitled "Complete" - these are not the complete Songs Without Words but only Opp.19, 35, 53, and 62. However, the big difference with this LP is that it was recorded on the RIAA curve and has other engineering improvements. Hence the sound is considerably improved over the earlier three albums.
