On the 4 September 1941 RAF Bottesford opened into No 5 Group Bomber Command but then lay empty until the 10th of October it was to see front line action with 207 and 467 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force Then a brief interlude as USAAF station 481 with the 50th Troop Carrier Wing Headquarters, assigned to Ninth Air Force After use by Maintenance Units for surplus storage Bottesford closed in May 1960 and was bought by John Rose in 1962 for a civilian warehousing company. The Roseland Group Ltd continues to operate from the site and uses the restored control tower as the company's office There are a number of accounts of both activity and apparitions from this airfield
