Present Indefinite Tense in English Grammar | Learn Simple Present Tense Rules with Examples

Present Indefinite Tense is also called Simple Present Tense. (Also known as the Simple Present Tense.) Sentences in this tense are identified by the addition of "ta hai, ti hai, thee hain" to the verb. For example: I go, he comes, you take a bath, etc. Which Helping Verb is used with which Subject? In Affirmative Sentences only: If the subject is a 3rd person singular subject, then "s" or "es" is used with the verb. For example: Plays, Makes, Eats, Goes, Grows, Washes, Wishes, Pushes, etc. (Where to use "S" and where to use "ES" is explained later.) In the case of any other subject (other than the 3rd person singular subject), "S" or "ES" is never used with the verb. In all other types of sentences (Negative, Interrogative, or Negative Interrogative), "DOES" is used with the 3rd person singular subject. "DO" is used with all other subjects. Rules: Affirmative Sentence - Sub. + V1 + s/es (with 3rd person singular) + Obj. Negative Sentence - Sub. + does/do + not + V1 + Obj. Interrogative Sentence - (WH) + does/do + Sub. + V1 + Obj.? Negative Int. Sentence - (WH) + does/do + Sub. + not + V1 + Obj.? Special Case: (When the subject is not given, but the question is asked about the subject.) Int.
