FIRE IN THE HOLD: ANTICIPATING/PREVENTING FIRES FROM PASSENGER-CHECKED BAGGAGE The number of portable electronic devices (PEDs) being carried by airline passengers has increased dramatically in recent years. Most of these devices are powered by lithium batteries that on rare occasions catch fire. Both regulators and the airline industry are acting to mitigate these developing hazards. Government and industry experts on this panel will discuss the latest tests demonstrating the hazards of PED fires in aircraft cargo compartments and how regulatory, policy, and operational steps are being taken to mitigate the hazards.
