“Who Was I Then?” is a brooding fusion of blues and darkwave about a man trapped in shame, repeating memories, and the loss of his own identity. As he questions who he once was—and whether there is still a way out—a raw male vocal carries the confession while ghostly female harmonies linger behind him. A wounded trumpet becomes the song’s second voice, stepping forward whenever words fail, supported by tremolo guitar, dark analog textures, and haunting electric viola. It is a song about staring into the past, no longer recognizing the person looking back, and desperately searching for whatever remains underneath the doubt.
