Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday to celebrate our dad, and to those who couldn’t be there but sent their love, flowers, cards, and kind words. To everyone who helped bring things, set up, or simply offered a helping hand, we are so grateful. You all helped give my dad a send-off worthy of the man he was. But more than anything, thank you for loving him.
Yesterday was epic, just like he was. Looking out at that sea of red and gold, seeing so many people show up in his colors, is something I’ll never forget. I can’t imagine a more fitting tribute to a man who loved his 49ers almost as much as he loved his people. I think he would have been in heaven seeing so many people set aside their own colors for his. And I know he would have loved every minute of it.
Now that the celebration is behind us, I’m not quite sure what life looks like from here. There was so much to do, so much to plan, and now comes the quiet reality of figuring out how to move forward without him. But yesterday reminded me of something I hope I never forget: the love he gave throughout his life didn’t leave with him. It lives on in the people he loved, the stories we tell, the memories we carry, and the laughter that will always bring us back to him.
And somehow, knowing that so many people carry a little piece of my dad with them makes the thought of moving forward without him feel a little less lonely.
For those who couldn’t make the trip, I want to leave you with our final tribute to my dad and his amazing life. More than a slideshow, it’s a love letter to him, to this big, wonderful family that meant the world to him, and to the lifelong friends he spoke of so often and so fondly. A glimpse into the people, places, and moments that made his life what it was.
I hope that as you watch, you’ll feel some of the love that filled the room yesterday. And maybe you’ll see a little piece of the man you knew and loved, too.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of his story.
With love,
The Anaya and Bishop Families
