The 300 Billion Cubic Meters of Gas Under 2 Million People

Lake Kivu is the killer lake holding 300 billion cubic meters of methane and CO2 beneath 2 million people in Rwanda and the DRC. The film revisits the 1986 Lake Nyos limnic eruption that suffocated 1,746 people, explains why Kivu's 485-meter stratified waters have trapped gas for 1,000 years, and reveals the volcanic springs and bacteria still adding pressure. It follows the dangerous plan to pump the gas for electricity before the lake overturns.
