Your gran has chained herself inside a mill. At nine, they knock it down. And you're the only one who can hear what
its walls remember.
Press your sleeve to any wall and you hear every word ever said in that room, newest first. In 1911 this mill burned,
eleven workers died, and a seventeen-year-old girl was hanged for it. Tonight the walls are the last witness, and the
crane is already warming up.

Would you want to hear what your walls know, even if it cost you your hearing? Tell us in the comments.
If you'd press your hand to the wall anyway, leave a like.

In a normal furnished room a sound dies away in under a second: ordinary rooms have a reverberation time (RT60) of
roughly 0.3–0.8 s, and classrooms are recommended at 0.6 s or less (ANSI/ASA S12.60).
Knocker-ups were paid a few pence a week to wake shift workers in British and Irish industrial towns, tapping on
windows with long poles, well into the 20th century: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knocker-up
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, New York, 25 March 1911: 146 workers died, a stairway door was locked, and the
owners were acquitted of manslaughter. Cornell ILR School's archive: https://trianglefire.ilr.cornell.edu/
The Severan Tondo (around AD 200, Berlin): after Caracalla had his brother Geta killed, Geta's face was erased from
the family portrait. The painting still survives with the gap: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Severan...
The story is fiction: the power, the town, the Crane Mill, its fire and everyone in it.
