Humanity crossed the stars to meet its creators. What it found was a threat to its own existence. Why were the Engineers preparing to destroy humanity? Were we a failed experiment, a disappointment—or something they had begun to fear? This analysis follows Elizabeth Shaw’s search for answers through the discoveries on LV-223, the mission to Earth, and the encounter between Weyland, David and the surviving Engineer. One detail changes how we approach the mystery: the plan against Earth existed before the expedition arrived. Explaining the Engineer’s attack doesn’t necessarily explain why humanity was already a target. We examine the major theories, including Ridley Scott’s crucified-emissary development idea, and weigh what the released film supports, what remains interpretation, and what it leaves unanswered. Behind those questions lies another: why do we expect the beings who created us to care about us?
