Inside the World's Largest Desert Walnut Orchard | Full Walnut Harvest Process

Why would anyone grow walnuts — one of the thirstiest crops on Earth — in the middle of the desert? Follow the full walnut harvest process, from drilling for groundwater to cold-pressed walnut oil, and discover the economics most farming videos never show you. In this documentary we follow a desert walnut farm step by step: soil survey, borehole drilling, solar-powered irrigation, drip lines, compost-built soil, greenhouse seedlings, planting, pest control with drones, fertigation, flowering, mechanical tree-shaker harvesting, cracking, optical sorting, walnut oil pressing, walnut flour, packing and retail. Along the way we break down the real business behind it: why a walnut orchard takes 4–8 years to pay off (the J-curve), how one walnut climbs a value ladder from in-shell nuts to kernels, oil and flour, and why every kilo of walnuts carries a hidden water footprint of around 9,300 liters. We also look at real-world desert walnut regions — the edge of the Taklamakan Desert in Xinjiang and California's Central Valley. 🌍 Comment the country you're watching from — and tell me which crop I should follow next! ⏱ CHAPTERS 00:00 Water in the desert 01:15 Where is the water?
