“Blue Grass” is a lively 1928 fox-trot written by B. G. DeSylva, Lew Brown, and Ray Henderson, the celebrated songwriting team behind many Jazz Age hits. Lou Gold and His Orchestra give the tune a bright, rhythmic dance-band treatment characteristic of late-1920s popular music. The number evokes Kentucky and the South with a catchy, upbeat melody designed for the ballroom. The recording was made on July 6, 1928, as matrix 8077.
Release date: August 1928. A contemporary August 1928 issue of The Talking Machine World lists “Blue Grass” among that month's new dance records on the related Banner label, strongly placing the Domino 4170 issue in the same late-summer 1928 period.
