Eldrew Yulo Was Dead Last in Qualifying… Then He Stood Next to Carlos on the Podium

Eldrew Yulo scraped into the floor exercise final at the 2026 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships with the lowest score in the entire field — eighth out of eight, 13.600. Days later he was standing on a senior continental podium beside his own brother, Carlos Yulo, the two-time Olympic gold medalist, having outscored every other nation in Asia. This is the story of how an 18-year-old from Manila went from watching his brother train, to a junior Asian title, to the first Filipino medals in Junior World Championships history, to beating a former Olympic silver medalist in his first month as a senior athlete. And there's one name hanging over all of it. Manny Pacquiao quietly rewarded Hidilyn Diaz. He quietly rewarded Carlos after Paris. Now a second Yulo has a senior international medal — and Pacquiao has said nothing. Plus: how a 17-year-old from Montana with no elite gymnastics pipeline ended up training beside Simone Biles — and what Biles texted her before she beat a two-time Olympic champion in Hartford. 00:00 The gymnast who qualified last 00:XX Who is Eldrew Yulo 00:XX Singapore 2023 — proving the name wrong 00:XX Gold in 2024, then Tokyo 00:XX Manila 2025 — history for the Philippines 00:XX Going senior: Baku and Antalya 00:XX The podium with Carlos 00:XX The Pacquiao pattern 00:XX Reese Esparza and the Biles text All results referenced are from official competition result sheets.
