Bill C-39 is the Carney government’s latest set of measures to dramatically weaken Canada’s environmental laws. Coupled with Bill C-5 and recent regulatory and policy changes, it amounts to the effective evisceration of federal impact assessment and could lead to the extinction of iconic species at risk, including the Southern Resident Killer Whale. This webinar will unpack what Bill C-39 does and what it means for nature and climate. Join us for a conversation with experts from West Coast Environmental Law, Wildlife Conservation Society Canada, and Ecojustice as we explore the proposed approach. The webinar will provide an overview of Bill C-39 and related regulatory and policy changes and their implications for communities, climate, biodiversity, and perspectives on how Canada’s nature and climate priorities could be better integrated into major project decision-making. Hear from our panel of environmental experts Anna Johnston (WCEL), Justina Ray (WCS Canada), and Isabel McMurray (Ecojustice) as they unpack Bill C-39 and what it means for Canada.
