We Found a Piece of Australia’s WWII History at Lake Boga

This week we slow things down for a few days at beautiful Lake Boga in northern Victoria. We set up at Lake Boga Caravan Park for the week as we continue making our way back towards Melbourne for Tania’s arthroscopy, but what we thought would be a quiet stop turned into one of those places where Australian history suddenly starts joining together. We visit the incredible Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum and discover the story of the Catalina flying boats and the secret wartime base established here during World War II. It’s a fascinating connection for us after previously visiting Broome and seeing the remains of the flying boats destroyed during the Japanese air raid on Roebuck Bay in 1942. Thousands of kilometres apart, but all part of the same story. We also explore some of Lake Boga’s fantastic mural art, wander around town and simply enjoy a relaxed week beside the lake before continuing south towards Melbourne.
