The entire story of The Wind Waker, told slowly and in order, from a birthday on a small island to two children sailing off the edge of the map. One calm voice, a quiet ambient bed, self-contained chapters you can drift in and out of. Zelda lore to fall asleep to, to listen to while you work, to have on while you eat, or to study to: a sister who gave away her telescope, a bird collecting girls by the shape of their ears, a fourteen-year-old running a crew of grown men, a talking boat with an agenda, a kingdom sitting intact at the bottom of the sea, and a man selling pots in the middle of an ocean who is delighted when anybody visits. The thing this one does that no other Zelda does: the Rito are the evolved form of the Zoras and the Koroks are the transformed Kokiri. Two entire peoples changed shape to survive the flood and nobody alive mentions it. And at the end the last king of the drowned kingdom holds the power to bring it all back, works out that he would be the only person glad to have it, and wishes it washed away instead.
