Crushed drink bottles go into a granulator, and later a heated sheet of recycled plastic is pulled over a mold to become half of a suitcase. How does that happen?
This documentary follows a representative modern process from a bale of used PET bottles to a finished, tested hard-shell suitcase. It is a general look at how recycling plants and luggage makers work, not a tour of one named factory. Where methods vary between companies, the video says so.
Stages shown
Bale inspection and opening
Metal removal, screening and label removal
Near-infrared and color sorting
Granulating, hot wash and float-sink separation
Drying and optical flake sorting
Melt extrusion, filtration, pelletizing and sheet extrusion
Thermoforming, trimming and drilling
Lining fabric made from recycled polyester
Assembly: zipper, rivets, wheels, handle and lock
Drop, handle, wheel, zipper and lock testing
Final inspection, packaging and dispatch
You’ll also learn why not every hard suitcase is made from recycled bottles, how recycled content is usually blended, and why durability testing matters as much as the recycling itself.
Which stage surprised you most: the hot wash, the vacuum forming, or the testing? Tell us in the comments.
