Why did Jesus choose Judas? John 6 and John 13 place Jesus’ choice beside his knowledge of the betrayal. At first glance, Judas can seem like a tool in a plan he could not refuse.
In this close reading, John 6:64-71 explained means following what Jesus knew, when the Gospel says he knew it, and what “from the beginning” does—and does not—settle. We then follow the story to the Last Supper: the foot washing, the shared bread, and Judas leaving. John 13 Judas betrayal explained also means noticing the echo of Psalm 41:9. Did prophecy force Judas to act? Does foreknowledge erase responsibility?
The passage identifies Jesus’ knowledge and Judas’s betrayal, but it does not give a complete account of how foreknowledge and human choice coexist. This reading keeps the tension rather than claiming a tidy solution.
