In 1993, a group of fisherman off the coast of Hôi An, central Vietnam, would stumble on piece of Vietnamese history that changed how historians and archeologists understood the history of Vietnam as far as the 15th century ceramics industry was concerned.
This video takes us through how the 500 years old Vietnamese porcelain from the Chu Dau kilns of the Red River Delta in Northern Vietnam was found and excavated from the bottom of the south China sea, off the Vietnam central coast.
How the discovery changed the economic activities in Hôi An, and how through Vietnamese government intervention in partnership with Mensun Bound, a renowned maritime archeologist, that discovery would put Vietnamese ceramics history on the shores of Northern America and the rest of the world.
