This 1971 Ford Bronco has been sitting for years—but before the frame-off restoration can begin, it has to make one questionable 10-mile drive across town to the shop. The family-owned Bronco still has its 302 V8 and three-speed column-shift transmission, but “running” doesn’t necessarily mean roadworthy. The steering wheel has an alarming amount of play, the manual steering takes some muscle, the shifter is extremely loose, the brakes need attention, and something in the rear starts rattling once we get moving. It also pulls to the left, doesn’t always want to go into gear, and the cracked, dirty windshield isn’t helping visibility. In other words, this should be interesting. The goal is simple: get the Bronco safely into the shop so we can begin tearing it down and rebuilding it from the frame up. Throughout the project, I’ll be using artificial intelligence as a restoration partner—helping with planning, research, troubleshooting, parts selection, documentation, and the countless decisions involved in bringing this classic Ford back to life. This isn’t a professional shop build. It’s an honest experiment to find out how useful AI can really be when the work moves from a computer screen to an old, rusty vehicle. In this episode: A forgotten 1971 Ford Bronco returns to the road The original-style 302 V8 and three-on-the-tree transmission Excessive steering play and heavy manual steering Questionable brakes and a loose column shifter A mysterious rattle from the rear Poor visibility through a cracked windshield The 10-mile drive to the restoration shop The official beginning of the frame-up rebuild Will the Bronco make it all the way without breaking down—or will this restoration project begin on the side of the road?
